Grants & Public Funding
FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grants
FEMA’s Assistance to Firefighters Grants program supports fire departments and other eligible organizations with critical equipment, training, and related capabilities. Review current notices, eligibility, and application guidance directly through FEMA.
USDA Community Facilities
USDA Rural Development’s Community Facilities program can provide loans, grants, and combined financing for essential public-safety projects in eligible rural communities—including fire trucks and fire department equipment.
New Mexico Fire Protection Grant Program
New Mexico fire departments should review the New Mexico State Fire Marshal’s Fire Protection Grant program when planning an apparatus project. The current FY27 eligibility criteria identify apparatus as an eligible project category, with awards up to $600,000 for qualifying individual department or county-wide projects. Requirements, deadlines, and award limits should always be confirmed for the active cycle.
New Mexico Volunteer Fire Assistance Grant
The New Mexico Forestry Division administers the Volunteer Fire Assistance Grant program for eligible rural communities. The program can support wildland firefighting equipment and response capacity; qualifying departments may be eligible for up to $25,000 annually, subject to program requirements and a local match.
Financing Options
Municipal Lease-Purchase Financing
For agencies that need to place an apparatus in service before a full capital appropriation is available, tax-exempt municipal lease-purchase financing can provide a structured alternative. Terms, payment schedules, and prepayment options should be evaluated with the agency’s financial leadership and finance provider.

Mobilization & Cost-Recovery Resources
For many agencies, a capable wildland apparatus supports local response first—but can also be an important deployable resource when properly equipped, staffed, and made available through the appropriate state or interagency process.
Mobilization eligibility, rate structures, staffing requirements, and deployment opportunities vary by state, agreement, resource type, and incident. These resources provide a starting point for agency planning in the Northwest.

Rates, mobilization eligibility, and deployment opportunities are determined by the applicable agency or agreement and may change. Agencies should confirm current requirements directly with their state fire authority before relying on projected revenue or deployment availability.

Eligible public agencies may be able to purchase through the our Sourcewell Contract, 020124-SEW. The contract includes Ridgehound apparatus purchasing support and can simplify procurement by providing competitively solicited contract documentation.
